Emsur Announces Compostable Solution

MADRID, SPAIN | Emsur has added a new product to its portfolio in Ballee, France, that allows it to take another step forward in sustainability. Emsur France SPO has developed a bio-based and fully compostable single-use plastic bag with less than 50μ to use in stores. Company says this new product is an addition to the existing product portfolio that it is creating according to the strategic recommendations of the European Commission related to the circular economy.

The material used for the single-use bag is 40% bioplastic. The percentage of bio-based required in France will increase to 50% in 2020 and 60% in 2025. These bio-based plastics, or bioplastics, are plant-based materials to replace the traditional plastics derived from petroleum. They are composed of polymers from renewable resources, partially or totally, such as corn, cellulose, plant oils, animal fats and oils, among others.

The company explains that compostable means that a biological process takes place by converting our plastic materials into a compost when mixing with the organic matter, so they are naturally reintegrated into the environment.

Emsur is a division of the Grupo Lantero dedicated to the manufacture of flexible containers for packaging solutions primarily designed for the food sector, with both rotogravure and flexographic printing.

The company currently has ten production plants that allow it to conduct business in more than 60 countries spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
