Tufco Technologies Recognized for Green Bay Area Workforce Development; Converter/Manufacturer Announces Capital Expansion Plans

GREEN BAY, WI, USA—From the sound of recent reports coming from Green Bay-based Tufco Technologies, things are going well for the converter/manufacturer. The company says it recently was recognized by Wisconsin Senator David Hansen for its "significant efforts in supporting workforce development for the Green Bay area." In addition, Tufco Technologies reports the signing of significant new contracts as well as plans for expansion of its manufacturing capabilities in 2004.

Citation for Significant Efforts
According to Tufco, Senator Hansen presented company CEO and president Lou LeCalsey with a citation honoring Tufco for its workforce development efforts. Hanson also congratulated Tufco for its winning the Green Bay Area's Chamber of Commerce 2003 Manufacturing Award of Distinction. The company's nomination also has been forwarded to the Wisconsin Manufacturer's Commerce for consideration of the Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Award (to be announced Feb. 26, 2004).

Hansen's citation also acknowledged Tufco's decision that "the availability of a highly skilled workforce and a strong work ethic played a significant role in Tufco's recent move of its corporate headquarters from Dallas, Texas, to Green Bay," states Tufco's press release.

New Contracts Yield Expansion
According to Tufco CEO LeCalsey, "We have signed significant new contracts with new and exisiting customers for both printing and contract manufacturing at our Green Bay plant. …These new projects are scheduled to start-up at scheduled intervals throughout fiscal 2004 and all will be up and running by the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004."

Tufco says, to support this new business, the company is investing in more captial, aggregating approximately $3,600,000; included in this expansion program is the doubling of the capacity for its wet wipes production; the installation a new flat pack folder; and the rebuilding of an existing quarter folder. "The company also will contribute microbiological and chemical lab capabilities with the addition of equipment and building modifications," adds Tufco.

Says LeCalsey, "Fiscal 2003 was a year of significant accomplishment. We sold the Paint Sundries segment and now have the strongest balance sheet in [Tufco] history. We completed the move of our corporate office from Dallas to Green Bay; we began production on our wet wipes converting equipment and our second press in Green Bay; and Newton, NC, and Green Bay each acheived record sales and both sites set safety records."
