Water Ink Technologies Doubles UV Capacity

LINCOLNTON, NC, USA—Water Ink Technologies reports it's opened a new UV (ultraviolet) plant that more than doubles the co.'s Ink capacity for UV production. The new facility, located in Charlotte, NC, is dedicated to the research and manufacturing of UV inks and coatings solely.

According to the ink mfr., its PureFlex UV inks and coatings have grown dramatically due the product's "pourable" low viscosities, high-density colors, and safer forumlations. "Water Ink has made an important breakthrough in UV safety by eliminating all agressive skin reactive irritants as well as other hazardous and chemically suspect agents used commonly in UV products today," adds co. "This new facility enables [us] to meet the growing need for current UV applications while preparing innovative products for the future."

Co. says earlier this year the 2002 Franklin award was presented to Michael C. Hague, Jr., co. president. "The Franklin award is presented annually by the Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology program of Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) at the Harper Flexo Center in Charlotte, NC. The annual award recognizes industry members who have provided outstanding support for the program," says co.

Adds Jerry Howell, CPCC flexo program director, "Mike can be credited for opening the flexo faucet at CPCC." In 1992, says co., Hague and Howell worked together to arrange for the donation of CPCC's first flexo press, a Mark Andy 820.

CPCC's flexo program has since added two more presses and offers a two-year associate science degree in flexography. Water Ink Technologies says it continues to support the program through ink, supplies, and technical instruction donations.
