Printing Best Practices Review: The Digital Impact
- Published: March 22, 2002, By PRESS RELEASE
PARAMUS, NJ, USA—What's the best way to do print business in the current and continually growing digital climate? NAPL and PIA may have a few answers for package printers in "Best Business Practices for the Printing Industry."
According to the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) and Printing Industries of America (PIA), both organizations recently set up a joint committee to review business practices for the printing industry, including terms and conditions of sale. "Best Business Practices" is currently posted on the members-only areas of both the NAPL site (napl.org) and the PIA/GATF site (gain.net).
"The new guidelines reflect the ongoing impact of digital technology on the industry as a whole," says NAPL president I. Gregg Van Wert. "Digital technology has had a tremendous effect on the ways printers conduct business, including their relationships with customers and suppliers. The need for detailed information that identifies, defines, and clarifies standard practices is greater than ever," Van Wert adds.
NAPL says the new three-part "Best Practices for the Printing Industry" replaces the former set of "trade customs"; includes guidelines for the best practices in digital asset management as well as issues, terms, and conditions of sale (including quotations, orders, delivery, production, schedules, and other issues); and a basic glossary of the printing industry's most common workflow terms.

In addition to the "Best Practices Guidelines," NAPL reports the establishment of the NAPL Member Advantage Center (MAC). According to the assn., MAC provides a one-call source for fast information on everything from new business solutions to upcoming NAPL seminars and publications. According to NAPL, the center can be reached by dialing NAPL's toll-free number (800/642-6275) during regular business hours.
"By giving printing companies a single point of contact, MAC makes communicating with NAPL more efficient than ever," claims Van Wert. "It's the next logical step in our ongoing commitment to provide members with both superior service and the leading-edge information that's critical to running a successful business."
