Agfa Acquires Printing Techniques Ltd.

MORTSEL, BELGIUM—Agfa-Gevaert reports an agreement with Printing Techniques Ltd. (PTL) by which it will acquire the U.K.-based company. According to Agfa, PTL is based in Northhampton, England, and employs about 40 individuals.

Agfa says PTL has held the sole distribution rights for the U.K. market for an important part of its offset plate business since Agfa took over the Hoechst Graphics business in January 1996. By acquiring PTL, says the prepress manufacturer, Agfa will be able to integrate distribution and sales of its printing plates to the U.K. market fully.

"Merging PTL's business into our own will enable us to have the same complete offering of printing plates from the Agfa portfolio in the U.K. as we do in other countries," states Piet Cottenie, worldwide director of sales and marketins, Agfa Graphic Systems. "Agfa and PTL have worked in very close cooperation before, therefore the acquisition is a natural step forward for both parties. It's particularly good news for both Agfa's and PTL's customers," Cottenie adds.
