PARIS, FRANCE -- According to DuPont Chemical Solutions, as part of its strategy for sustainable growth, the co. has reached a business agreement with French oil/energy conglomerate TotalFinalElf to acquire its fluorotelomer surface protection and specialty surfactants business assets from Atofina, the chemicals branch of TotalFinaElf. DuPont says the agreement is subject to consultation with the French workers council, a union body, and the approval of relevant authorities, and financial terms were not disclosed, mfr. adds.
DuPont's recent news release states:
DuPont manufactures and markets surface protection finishes and specialty surfactants under the DuPont™ Teflon® and DuPont™ Zonyl® brands. These families of protection agents are used as oil, water, and grease repellents. DuPont is a major manufacturer of specialty products for surface protection and brings over 25 years experience in carpet and textile surface protection.
"We see this acquisition as an excellent opportunity to further enhance services to our customers and to strengthen our manufacturing and technical service presence in Europe," says William F. Weber, DuPont Surface Protection Solutions global business manager. "This addition to our Surface Protection Solutions business will complement our existing position in carpet and textile protection by adding strengths in paper, leather protectants, and fire-fighting foams."
