NPTA Celebrates 100 Years

FARMINGDALE, NY, USA—This year marks 100 years since he National Paper Trade Association (NPTA) was founded in 1903. According to the industry group, it begins a year-long celebration of its founding and a salute to the rich history of the industry. George Wurtz, president of paper, bleached board, and kraft, Georgia-Pacific, has been named chairman of the NPTA Alliance 100th anniversary committee.
"I'm pleased to be chairing the committee responsible for making NPTA's 100th anniversary a memorable one," says Wurtz. "We've assembled a great team of industry leaders to offer their insight, creativity, and enthusiasm to events we will plan for 2003." Committee members include: James Alexy, Network Services Co.; Eric Bloom, Amcor Sunclipse; Harry Gould, Gould Paper Corp.; Richard B. Lowe, xpedx; Timothy E. Needham, Smart Papers; Timothy F. Shannon, Bradner Smith & Co.; Leslie F. Stern, National Envelope; Mike Onustock, Weyerhaeuser; and William H. Frohlich, NPTA Alliance.
NPTA says the 100th anniversary committee will be charged with the oversight of all anniversary-related projects, including the creation of the 100th Anniversary Endowment Fund. This fund will ensure the future of the association through underwriting research and education in the paper, packaging, and supplies distribution channels, adds NPTA. "The endowment is critical to expanding research and educational programs that are beneficial to the paper manufacturing and distribution industries," says Wurtz. "Our goal is to raise more than one million dollars for [such] ambitious projects. I encourage all paper-related companies and organizations to consider contributing to this great industry cause because, ultimately, we will all benefit from the endowment's work," he adds.
