British Converter Adds Second Mark Andy Press
KENT, ENGLAND — LMT, a p-s tape and label converter, has installed a 10-in., six-color Mark Andy 2200 press at its Orpington, Kent, facility.
This is the third Mark Andy press for the converter, which purchased its first one after Labelexpo 95, a six-color, water-based 2200. Joint managing director Julian Lee reports that first Mark Andy press paid for itself within two years and began the company's transition from tape to labels.
Lee adds the new press is “very fast to make ready and run…. We needed to diversify our business, and the Mark Andy presses provide us with the opportunity to consolidate our existing customer base and enter new markets.”

Bank Part of Fort Dearborn's Plan
NILES, IL, USA — Fort Dearborn Co., a supplier of high-impact decorative labels for high-velocity consumer goods marketers, announced a partnership with boutique investment bank Thomas Blaige & Co. LLC as part of its strategic plan for acquisitions.
Fort Dearborn Co. last year announced its strategic plan over the next five years, a plan highlighted by targeted annual sales growth of 20%. The strategy calls for organic growth and acquisitions, as well as the establishment of positions in the personal care, household products, and wine/spirit markets.
DOC Finds Dumping
AMHERST, NY, USA — IIMAK reports the US Dept. of Commerce (DOC) issued a preliminary ruling that foreign-produced wax and wax/resin thermal transfer ribbons (TTR) are being sold at unfairly low prices in the US. The DOC has determined duties should be imposed on future imports from Japan and France to relieve the impact of dumping on US producers.
US Customs will begin collecting a bond to cover these duties on all affected TTR imports. The DOC will direct an antidumping margin of 147.3% on imports from DNP and Union Chemicar from Japan and 106.6% on all other Japanese imports. Imports from Armor (France) will be subject to anti-dumping margins of 60.6% and 44.93% on all other French imports. Duties will be assessed for 90 days retroactive to the Federal Register publication on imports from DNP and Union Chemicar.
