Success Cubed
If you think ice is just ice, think again. UK-based Blue Keld offers Spring Water Premium Ice Cubes, an upscale product that now features a press-to-close zipper from Zip-Pak on its 2-kg version. The convenience of a resealable bag has pleased customers, says Blue Keld’s managing director Graham Cheesbrough. He adds, “We have nothing but praise for the quality of Zip-Pak’s technology and technical support.” The zippers are applied in the transverse direction for easy access from the top of the package.

Soaker Pads
The Freshtray thermoformed, self-absorbent foam food tray from Genpak, Glens Falls, NY, soaks up liquid and eliminates the need for a soaker pad. This is said to offer cost savings for supermarket meat departments on warehouse space, freight, shrinkage, and more. Tray features tiny surface holes where liquid passes to an “open cell” area, is trapped away from the product, and stays there. Currently, Freshtray products are available only to select customers on the West Coast, but company asks interested parties to stay tuned for increased availability.
Liners & More Liners
New designs of pre-cut cap liners from Pres-On, Addison, IL, include foam PE, S105 and foil seal, pressure seal, pulp and foil seal, and crosslinked PE foam. Standard cap sizes are 20–120 mm with additional diameters, shapes, and substrates available. Many of the foil caps can be printed with product names or promotions. Company says caps are designed for trouble-free use with existing packaging machinery and offer a barrier to air and moisture for a wide range of products, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, oils, and aggressive chemicals.
