Cozy and Comforting
Thymes, known for its bath and body products, has taken its popular Frasier Fir fragrance and applied it to a holiday paper goods collection. The collection, which actually is available all year long, includes a note card kit complete with envelopes, mailing labels, decorative tags, and notecards; ornament cards with a 3-D flourish; a ruled journal adorned with brown acorns and green leaves; and a note pad with a magnet on the back. All products in the line feature the fir fragrance, which Thymes calls “cozy and comforting.”
Let it Snow
The US Postal Service has issued stamps that celebrate both the winter holiday season as well as the uniqueness and beauty of snowflakes. Stora Enso Specialty Papers supplied 55# OptiLabel Stamp paper, which is coated on a machine-glazed base sheet for a smooth, glossy, uniform surface. After being caught on cardboard, four snowflakes were transferred quickly from cardboard to a glass slide using a paintbrush and then photographed, with the camera in a heated box.

From Plain to Premium
Each year in-house, independent, and private-label package designers receive a “Toolbox” containing product samples from suppliers and converters. The 2006 edition features silver, 92-ga brushed film from Brushfoil applied to a 14x14x12-in. carton. Brushfoil says the Toolbox was an opportunity to show how the brushed chrome finish can turn a plain box into a product with a premium look. Hazen Paper Co., Holyoke, MA, applied an acrylic lacquer and sheeted to size the single-face, e-flute carton. Ares Printing & Packaging, Brooklyn, NY, did the printing, final lamination, die-cutting, and gluing.
