Going with the Flow

CUMMING, GA — ”An integrated workflow was key in our decision-making process,” says Sean Carty, chief operating officer at ProLabel. “Our previous system pulled together equipment from a handful of different vendors.” That has been remedied.

ProLabel now boasts a Matchprint inkjet proofing solution, a Thermoflex narrow platesetter, and a Prinergy Powerpack workflow system, all from Kodak.

“With our trio of Kodak solutions, we now have a production process that allows us to handle a higher quality of work and more complex jobs with a faster turnaround…,” says Carty. “We've seen significant improvements in quality from a prepress and production standpoint. A proof on the new system matches up to the final printed piece. The new equipment allows us to expand beyond basic four-color, linear work and produce more sophisticated jobs with spot colors, vignettes, and other special effects.”

Gallus Adds BHS to the Fold

ST. GALLEN, SWITZERLAND — The Gallus Group has acquired BHS Druk- und Veredelungstechnik, Oberpfalz, Germany. The takeover will result in expansion of the folding carton range through mid- and wide web printing presses and flatbed die-cutters. Gallus reports it will apply its expertise developed in the narrow web printing press niche, specifically the linking of several printing and processing steps on the same platform, to the mid- and wide web BHS machines. This will allow printing, refinement, and die-cutting in one manufacturing process. Gallus will incorporate the folding carton business in a separate business unit based in Weiden, Germany.

Cutter Keeps Company Running

BUTLER, WI — When Western States Envelope & Label decided to replace an aging cutter, it did some comparison shopping before purchasing a Polar 155 XT (above) from Heidelberg USA. Department manager Matt Frittitta says, “When it came to the mechanical advantages, we were concerned with some of the other brands.”

Since the installation, Frittitta adds, downtime has been reduced and turnaround is faster, both very important benefits for a company that runs 24 hrs/day and produces more than 7 million envelopes each day. “The touchscreen is nice, and the 155 XT has a much faster back-gauge,” Frittitta notes.

The results have been so impressive that Western States' Ohio division has also added a Polar 155 XT.
