Barco's ArtiosCAD: RIT's Teaching Tool

VANDALIA, OH -- A Barco donation made to the packaging sciences division of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is beginning to pay off for the whole industry -- a growing class of highly trained packaging professionals. According to Barco Graphics, its ArtiosCAD packaging software was donated to RIT more than a year ago; orginally, reports the co., the software was presented as a means to stream electronic data to the school's cutter sampletable. "However, [RIT] quickly saw the CAD/CAM system could be used to enhance one of the foundation courses of the packaging science curriculum."

Says Karen Procter, RIT chairperson of the division, "Our students need exposure to the types of electronic tools and equipment they will work with in the industry. The donation of the ArtiosCAD system presented a perfect opportunity to infuse some new technology."

RIT is one of only six schools in the country teaching packaging science, says Barco.
