GERMANY—Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering, USA, and Polytype, Switzerland, announce a strategic alliance "to integrate advanced extrusion coating and laminating technology into complete converting systems for the converting industry." According to the companies, the lines will be called "Polycoat" and, initially, will be marketed in North America and "soon will be available worldwide." The announcement press release adds the companies have manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe, and Asia, and sales and service support throughout the world.
Polytype president Battista Corti says of the alliance, "Since the demand for high quality extrusion coating and laminating is increasing in the converting business, we are very pleased that we will be able to offer our clients excellent and field-proven technology from Battenfeld Gloucester."
Adds Helmut Eschwey, chairman of SMS Plastics Technology (which includes Battenfeld Gloucester), "Already a large market, packaging is growing in importance and volume as marketers use it as a product differentiator. ... The alliance will serve our customers as a reliable source for first-class equipment, process technology, and service."
The companies say the Polycoat converting lines will be available for such applications as: flexible packaging using various combinations of film, paper, and foil; paper packaging and specialties such as photo paper; release liners; semi-rigid paperboard/foil containers; and certain woven and non-woven synthetic fiber materials.
