Extruder a Tall Addition

Automated Packaging Systems had to build an addition to its manufacturing facility in Keyser, WV, to accommodate the 57-ft height of its new Alpine blown film coextrusion system. Apparently it was worth the work.
The coextruder produces film in rolls said to be 40% larger than standard rolls, resulting in more efficient production with fewer splices and less scrap. It uses a three-layer process with precise control over film thickness and custom blends. A high-accuracy laser scanner monitors film thickness continuously.
Automated Packaging creates materials for bag packaging applications in hardware, medical, food, pharmacy, fulfillment, and retail packaging. Jim Kauffman, executive VP of manufacturing operations, says, “This new extruder gives us unique capabilities to produce high quality films for both traditional and special applications.”
