Ashe Converting Equipment Reports Signs of Improvement in US

IPSWICH, U.K.—U.K.-based Ashe Converting Equipment says its seeing signs of improvement in United States markets. "[Due to the economic downturn], the US printing, packaging, and converting industries suffered a disappointing year in 2002, with only marginal improvements for many in 2003. Nevertheless, Ashe continued to export Sapphire slitters, Emerald rewinders, and bespoke systems to US converters," states the company, though, according to Ashe Converting Equipment's chief engineer Keith Fordham, some converting sectors peformed better than others. "Most notably flexible packaging and 'specialist' converting, i.e. medical and security products," reports Fordham.

A US Ashe rep in Vermont—Guy Carrington, Guilford, VT—reports that sales to North American flexible packaging producers include a Sapphire duplex winder with a dual-sided corona treater as well as a 100mm duplex rewind Sapphire slitter/rewinder. In addition, says the co., a customized six-station traverse winder for narrow web slitting has been delivered to the US.
