  • American Forest & Paper Assn., Washington, DC, reports total kraft paper shipments in April 2011 were 129,900 tons, an increase of 2.0% compared to April 2010 but down 7.2% compared to March 2011. Total boxboard production in April 2011 decreased by 1.3% compared to April 2010 and decreased 2.4% from March 2011. Containerboard production for April 2011 fell compared to March 2011, with month-over-month average daily production down 0.6%

  • Field Packaging Group, Bedford Park, IL, is sold to Packaging Corp. of America, Lake Forest, IL. Mesirow Financial, Chicago IL, acts as exclusive financial advisor to Field.

  • Proteus Packaging, Franklin, WI, installs a 57-in. Dymatrix 145 die-cutter from Heidelberg, Kennesaw, GA. A seven-color Speedmaster XL 105 press with coater is due to be installed shortly.

  • UK-based Pira Intl. releases a new study, “The Future of Folding Cartons: Market Forecasts to 2016,” which finds overall actual consumption of cartonboard as measured by converter sales will grow by an average of 4.4% annually. Asia will grow at 6.5% for the period, and the BRIC countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China will see an average annual growth rate of 7.9%.

  • The Standard Group, Jackson Hts., NY, reports its Louisville, KY, manufacturing facility is AIB Certified with a Superior rating for the Consolidated Standards for Inspection: Food-Contact Packaging Facilities.
