Cortec Unveils Revolutionary Biodegradable VCI Paper with Eco-Bio Technology

As packaging pollution becomes an increasing concern in today’s society, Cortec® has been looking into ways to keep the environment cleaner while offering top-quality corrosion protection. CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper with Eco-Bio Technology does that by enhancing the biodegradable and compostable characteristics of a naturally sourced paper that provides reliable corrosion protection on both sides.

CorShield VpCI-146 Paper brings the circular economy of responsible sourcing and disposal to reality in more than one way. To start with, CorShield VpCI-146 is a USDA Certified Biobased Product that contains 92 percent USDA certified biobased content. Furthermore, it is made from 100 percent recycled content paper, doubling its sustainable sourcing.

CorShield VpCI-146 is recyclable and repulpable, giving users the option of sending it for reprocessing into new paper products. It is also designed to be commercially compostable. Not long ago, the paper underwent compostable disintegration testing according to ASTM D6868 in Cortec Laboratories. CorShiel® VpCI-146 disintegrated in just 10 weeks, faster than the duration allowed by the ASTM method.

CorShield VpCI-146 with Eco-Bio Technology is the premium corrosion inhibiting paper in the industry. It relies on Cortec’s patented biodegradable and compostable Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibiting Technology to protect metals inside an enclosed package.

Both sides of CorShield VpCI-146 paper reportedly offer effective protection to ferrous and non-ferrous metals, eliminating the need to stock a variety of papers for different metal types.

Corrosion protection is achieved simply by wrapping metal items in the paper and folding the edges together, taping as needed to hold the paper in place. The VpCI coating on the paper vaporizes, reaching all metal surfaces within the package to provide complete corrosion protection with a very thin, very effective VpCI layer that does not alter product appearance or require removal before further finishing or use.

CorShield VpCI-146 is an extremely convenient material that combines corrosion protection and packaging into one step. Metal manufacturers, finishers, and shippers can use it to protect dry or oiled metals during storage, transit, and overseas shipment. It can be used for interleaving layers of parts, wrapping parts, or capping the ends of tubes. It protects multiple metal types and is effective against aggressive environments including humidity, SO2, H2S, and galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals.
