Australian Printer Adds Capabilities with Mark Andy

ST. LOUIS, MO

Mark Andy has supplied Hill's Labels, Sydney, Australia, with a Mark Andy 2200 press as the centerpiece a new production facility. Since installation, owner Scott Beadman has noticed a significant increase in print quality and registration, and the increased production speed has enabled the converter to take on more projects with shorter lead times.

“The addition of the Mark Andy 2200 has resulted in a 40% reduction in makeready, both in time and material,” states Beadman. “Our capabilities have significantly increased, and when we look to add another press, it will be a Mark Andy.”

Spear Expands

MASON, OH

Spear Group Holdings is expanding its Mason production facility, including the addition of 30 jobs. This includes the transfer of manufacturing capacity from its Milford, NH, facility. Spear has named the Mason facility its “Narrow Web UV Center of Excellence,” and it will include new printing presses, production flows, and cosmetic upgrades. Work is to be completed by year end.

Sleeve Report Is Available

Label World Installs New Press, Converting Line

ROCHESTER, NY

Label World has installed a 10-in. Ko-Pack combination press, supplied by KPG Corp., that provides 12-color printing with UV inks and screen printing for extra opacity or texture, as well as plow-folding, pattern adhesive coating, and laminating for converting multiple webs. To minimize floor space, the press design comprises six print stations positioned around a CI drum, plus six additional print stations in a vertical stack of three and three.

Label World also has installed an Omega Digicon Series 2 converting line from AB Graphic Intl., equipped with flat-bed tooling for hot foil stamping, embossing, and spot UV varnish coatings. The cost of flat-bed tooling reportedly is less than the cost of rotary tooling, thus opening the opportunity of these premium features to a wider variety of customers.

TLMI Moves East

IML Process Gets Boost

ENGEN, GERMANY

Waldorf Technik has partnered with Schober GmbH, Eberdingen, Germany, to introduce “roll-flex IML,” a process that allows production of in-mold labels in-line in the manufacturing process of injected molded products. With roll-flex IML, the pre-punched labels that previously were required are replaced by printed rolls; the punching process is undertaken by IML robots. Now injection molders and their customers can purchase the labeling materials throughout the world, offering significant improvements with respect to purchasing costs and delivery times.

Transfer Ribbon Aids Security

The RDZ thermal transfer ribbon for security labeling applications produces printed text, bar codes, and other label content that is only visible under UV light. The security mark does not occupy any “real estate” on the label itself, company says, so it does not interfere with the label design. Ribbon is a clear, resin-based thermal film and is compatible with synthetic label stocks, including Pps, polyesters, and some coated paper label materials.

Printers Come With Software

H-427 and H-436 Series thermal transfer label printers are suited for high-volume printing and are available in 203 or 300 dpi. Stripper sensor for strip-and-peel or tear-off applications is standard. Printers contain internal memory for storing downloaded label formats, graphics, and fonts and ship with a complimentary version of company's Easylabel Start software for custom designing and printing bar code labels.

Adhesive Suited For Cold Foil

Foilbond TC is a high-performance, UV-curable through cure adhesive optimized for cold foiling application. Said to have excellent laminating adhesion; proven suitability on a wide variety of substrates; the capability of being used with many ink technologies; high curing speed; and suitability for combination printing.
