Treofan to Add New BOPP Line in Mexico

WINSTON-SALEM, NC, & RAUNHEIM, GERMANY | Treofan, a manufacturer of specialty biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, is investing USD 45m in a new five-layer, 10.4-m orientation line at its Americas plant in Zacapu, Mexico. The new asset, due to begin operation in the fourth quarter of 2018, will result in a net capacity increase of some 30,000 tons/yr, or 50% of the plant’s current capacity as an existing small line from 1992 will be mothballed. The facility will host a new line from Brückner.
The company reports it has grown its Americas business consistently over the past 20 years with investments so far totaling USD 100m in two lines of 8.5 and 8.2 m.
“The additional asset represents the next phase of the Group’s reinvestment strategy, which was initiated in 2014 at our facility in Neunkirchen, Germany,” says Jon Knight, CEO Treofan Americas. “The advanced capacity and capabilities will enable us to continue to grow with our valued customers in our key markets.”
Allan Crighton, COO Treofan Americas, adds, “We have been working in close cooperation with Brückner to design a line capable of producing our current and future specialty BOPP film products at more than ten meters wide and at speeds to 600 meters per minute, building on the experience gained with the 8.2-meter, five-layer Brückner line which has now been running for almost ten years.”
