PSSMA Issues Safety Awards

COOPERSBURG, PA | The Paper Shipping Sack Manufacturers’ Association (PSSMA) has announced the winners of its Safety Awards Program for 2017. The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the best annual safety experience in 2017 in the man-hour categories shown are as follows:
- Less than 150,000 manhours – Mondi Bags USA, Arcadia, LA, Plant
- 150,000–225,000 manhours – El Dorado Packaging, Omaha, NE, Plant
- 225,000–325,000 manhours – Mondi Bags USA, Pine Bluff, AR, Plant
- Over 325,000 manhours – Mondi Bags USA, Salt Lake City, UT, Plant
The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the greatest annual safety improvement in 2017 in the man-hour categories shown are as follows:
- Less than 150,000 manhours – El Dorado Packaging, Rosemount, MN, Plant
- 150,000–225,000 manhours – SeaTac Packaging Manufacturing Corporation, Puyallup, WA, Plant
- 225,000–325,000 manhours – Mondi Bags USA, Pine Bluff, AR, Plant
- Over 325,000 manhours – El Dorado Packaging, El Dorado, AR, Plant
Best annual safety experience was determined on the basis of lowest total recordable incidence rate in each annual manhour category. Greatest annual safety improvement was determined on the basis of greatest decrease in total incidence rate between 2016 and 2017.
The following plants had zero incidence rates in 2017:
- El Dorado Packaging’s Omaha, NE, Plant
- Mondi Bags USA, Arcadia, LA, Plant
- Mondi Bags USA, Salt Lake City, UT, Plant
These awards were announced to the industry and presented to winners April 26, 2018, at the PSSMA Production Managers’ Conference in Greenville, SC.
