Goss Hosts Packaging Seminar in Mexico

DURHAM, NH | Goss International recently hosted a packaging seminar in Mexico City, where topics included production efficiency, quality advantages, shorter run-lengths and flexible repeats. Company says Mexican package printers and converters reportedly were eager to learn about web offset advantages. 
Leonardo Clavijo, sales manager for Goss in Latin America, presented some of the key technical advantages of the Sunday Vpak Series, said to include quick-change cylinder sleeves that make ‘infinitely’ variable repeat lengths easy and affordable. He also outlined some of the advantages of high-tech inking and the ability to maintain a more precise control over finer detail for premium packaging designs.
The event included a testimonial given by Marcos Jordão, director of operations for Videplast Brazil, in which he explained his company’s recent decision to order a Sunday Vpak 500 press from Goss. Jordão said print quality and production flexibility were key motivators for the investment.
Goss personnel provided a detailed overview of cost models, Clavijo says. “…we illustrated the potential cost benefits of Vpak technology using data from real production models. By switching the numbers for flexo and gravure platemaking and job setup in different run-length examples with true corresponding values for web offset, [delegates] could start to understand where the pay-off begins. The more frequent the job or version changes, the more appealing web offset becomes by comparison.”
Representatives from QuadTech, ESI, and Flint Group also presented during the event, describing how their products can enhance Vpak capabilities and performance.
In addition to hosting localized conferences and seminars, Goss regularly holds live demonstrations on a Vpak 500 press system, with EB and UV curing and flexo coating, in its Packaging Technology Center at company headquarters in Durham.
