The Valmet team in North America recently hosted a Roll Maintenance School from October 21-24, 2024, in Pennsylvania.

The program welcomed 45 customers, including mill maintenance and operations personnel, providing them with a platform to enhance their knowledge and skills. The learning objectives included:

  • Gaining a better comprehension of roll configurations and designs.
  • Understanding important repair procedures for different roll types.
  • Acquiring a complete understanding of predictive/preventive maintenance task identification and procedures.
  • Recognizing the impact of roll reliability on machine reliability.
  • Learning about new products designed to improve efficiency and runnability.

Throughout the four-day session, Valmet's on-site Service experts and instructors were available for one-on-one and focus group discussions, further elevating the learning experience for participants.

Valmet course leaders, including David Williams, Roll Cover Maintenance Technology Unit Leader; Paul Delicati, Business Manager, Mechanical Roll Technology Unit; Kenneth Hopper, Product Manager, Mechanical Roll Maintenance; Kevin Wilson, Product Manager, Roll Cover Maintenance; and Michael McSween, Product Manager, played an important role in the success of the event.

The event also included a tour of the Valmet Service Center in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, offering participants a comprehensive, hands-on experience in roll maintenance. This opportunity allowed them to speak with Valmet's Roll Covering and Repair experts and put theory into practice through demonstrations and activities.

The Valmet Roll Maintenance School has a long history, dating back to its establishment in 1990. Over the years, it has had over 2,700 participants benefit from its educational programs. Valmet looks forward to the continued growth of this educational initiative and the positive impact it brings to its customers and the industry as a whole.

Plans for new courses in 2025 are already in development. Participants are invited to mark their calendars:
