Hollywood Is Venue for Entertainment Packaging Summit August 2004

PRESS RELEASE

HOLLYWOOD, CA, USA—Converters of entertainment packaging—packaging for such products as DVDs, CDs, and video games—now have a special event dedicated to their specific packaging needs. According to organizer Medialine, the second annual Entertainment Packaging Summit (part of the larger Entertainment Media Expo) will feature a video welcome by Academy Award®-winning writer/actor Billy Bob Thorton, as well as a keynote address by Rhino Records/Warner Strategic Marketing's VP of creative services Hugh Brown.

Among other important topics for converters of entertainment packaging to be covered at the upcoming summit:

  • Eye-Catching Packaging at the Store Level
The main goal of entertainment media packaging is to sell the product. But what are retailer expectations for what gets put on store shelves? And what are the merchandising challenges, such as finding room for special configurations?
  • Making Packaging Special
This session will reveal the thought process behind coming up with something new and creative that has never been done before.
  • Not Your Father's Printing Process
Advances in transporting digital files eletronically is saving enormous amounts of time and money for packaging companies, record labels, movie studios, and videogame publishers. Here are some case studies of the middle steps that are being cut out from the perspective of the beneficiaries. (Moderated by PFFC's own senior editor Teresa Koltzenburg.)

The Entertainment Media Expo is the largest US venue for entertainment media professionals and is expected to attract more than 3,000 visitors to its sold-out show floor. Besides the Packaging Summit, the event also includes three other venues, including the Media-Tech Showcase and Conference, DVD Entertainment Conference and Showcase, and Entertainment Asset Management.

Says Media-Tech Association president Bryan Ekus, "Convergence is the word for our industry. There are tremendous synergies among our various conference programs and our attendees. By combining four major events, we have created the world's most important event serving media professionals in video, audio, games, etc., while providing a single, convenient show experience in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world."

Adds Charles Van Horn, president of the International Recording Media Association (IRMA), "The combined event will now attract professionals in all facets of the production chain for entertainment media, including content creation, production, archiving, replication, packaging, retailing, and distribution. By bringing together so many influential professionals from so many related fields, this expanded event will truly play a major role in building the market for physical media in today's digital world."
