APPLETON, WI—Solutions! magazine—the trade magazine of TAPPI (Technical Assn. of the Pulp and Paper Industry) and PIMA (Paper Industry Management Assn.)—has named Appleton co-winner of the 2005 Company of the Year award along with Votorantim Celulose e Papel, a large pulp producer in São Paulo, Brazil. A vote of the magazine’s editorial board determines the annual winners. There is no nomination or application process.

Other important criteria include long-term commitment to the paper industry exhibited by capital investment, pursuit of strategic business goals, and global competitiveness. Additionally, Appleton was chose for its success in diversifying beyond pulp and paper.
TAPPI president Wayne Gross presented the award to Ted Goodwin, Appleton’s VP of technology on May 24, 2005, at the TAPPI Paper Exop and Practical Papermaking Conference in Milwaukee.
