Packaging Services Expo Debuts

CHICAGO, IL—With a comprehensive program designed to reach contract packagers, Packaging Services Expo, sponsored by the Tarsus group, debuted at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Ctr. in Rosemont, IL, May 1-12. This new venue was designed to reach contract packagers and their potential clients, however converters such as Smurfit-Stone Container, Rock-Tenn, and Colbert Packaging were also in attendance. Explains John Mazelin, president of the Contract Packaging Assn., contract packaging hasn’t shown itself as a huge growth area for converters, with the notable exception of Smurfit-Stone and Rock-Tenn, where the companies have been able to separate its contract packaging services from its converting operation, an endeavor more suitable for larger companies. Other conference tracks included Design and Marketing; Testing, Distribution and Quality Control; and Value-Added Packaging /Making Packaging Smarter.
