PRESS RELEASE
NORWALK, CT—Myllykoski, a producer of recycled and non-recycled groundwood paper products, recently sponsored an environmental workshop conducted by the Gravure Assn. of America (GAA). The workshop was held June 15-16 in Alsip, IL, and included an extensive tour of Myllykoski's Alsip Mill.
According to Craig Nelson, Myllykoski's VP of national accounts and conference chair, "The Alsip mill was designed with long-term sustainability in mind. By sourcing fiber in the urban forest of Chicago, Alsip diverts waste paper from landfills to produce coated groundwood paper with up to 100% recycled content."
Executives from over 100 organizations attended the workshop, including paper buyers, paper manufacturers, and environmental interest groups. The overall objective of the workshop was to assist buyers in making purchasing decisions that are right for their business and inform those seeking an understanding of environmental issues and alternatives surrounding paper and forestry products usage.
Topics discussed included:
- The roles of virgin and recycled fiber in various paper products.
- Chain of custody of fiber from various land ownership categories.
- Expanding logger programs and landowner group certifications
- An exploration of costs and benefits across the supply chain.
