Applied Materials to Acquire Applied Films

PRESS RELEASE

SANTA CLARA, CA—Applied Materials has entered into an agreement to acquire Applied Films Corp. as part of its strategy to expand its nanomanufacturing technology solutions and enter new businesses.

Applied Films’ PVD-based FPD products for color filter layers complement Applied Materials' existing CVD-based FPD products for the transistor layers. By combining expertise and technology, Applied Materials will be able to serve a larger number of thin film requirements.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory and Applied Films shareholder approval and is expected to be completed in Applied Materials’ fourth quarter. Prior to completion of the acquisition, Applied Materials and Applied Films must continue to operate as independent companies.
