PRESS RELEASE
PHILLIPS, WI—MarquipWardUnited has won the Control Design 2006 Innovator Award for its use of PC-based controls on its dual rotary knife sheeter. The award was the result of a combined effort between the MarquipWardUnited engineering teams in Phillips, WI, and Madison, WI, which included Erik Paulson, Randy Craig, Chuck Hirtreiter, Sam Slade, Tom Miske, Pete Forster, Brent Henney, and Tom Polensky.
The PC-based controls were a significant factor in increasing the sheeter’s production speed from 1,100 fpm to 1,500 fpm. According to Jon Jahn, project management director, the tight integration of the Beckhoff PC-base control system has helped reduce installation time by more than 30%, and customers are saving approximately 60% on spare parts.
MarquipWardUnited’s dual rotary knife sheeter is used to cut and stack converting materials, such as paper, plastic and foil, and can cut short sheets as small as 11 inches long. The sheeter includes brushless, high-torque, knife-cylinder motors combined with low-inertia knife cylinders to reach high cutting speeds.
