EMA Clarifies Statement Made on the Future of the #10 Envelope

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Envelope Mfrs. Assn. (EMA) Postal Affairs Committee chairman John Schlich was quoted as saying the position of the window in a #10 envelope would be changed, effective January 1, 2007. EMA president and CEO Maynard Benjamin clarifies this statement: "EMA was asked by mailers to consider making a change to the #10 envelope by moving the lower edge of the window position up to ⁵/₈ inches from the bottom of the envelope to the bottom of the window cut in order to relieve problems with mail acceptance automation." EMA established a special task force of envelope manufacturers to consider this change and is recommending to not change the envelope window size, but just to move the window position up slightly to ⁵₈ inches and is seeking mailer input on this proposed change.

EMA asks envelope manufacturers to continue to produce the standard #10 envelope and to voluntarily consider manufacturing this revised #10 window envelope to accommodate the United States Postal Service.
