Mamata Demonstrates Pouchmaker for Unsupported Films at Open House

MONTGOMERY, IL | Mamata Enterprises Inc. held an open house June 18-30 to demonstrate its Vegaplus 820 servo-driven pouchmaking system. PFFC staff attended the open house, meeting with Sanjay Amin, manager (exports), and Apurva Kane, senior VP, to see the demo and learn more about the company.

Mamata manufactured its first bag making machine in 1989 using a stepper motor and drive with microprocessor control system. Mamata has never made a machine using conventional clutch and brake technology. Today the company uses its expertise in servo technology to achieve processing advantages in tension control and real seal time and temperature control.

Mamata expects the flexible packaging market will grow at a rate of 7%, with the focus shifting to sustainable pouches. In response, the company has moved to develop equipment that can run unsupported, unlaminated coextruded films (barrier structure/straight polyethylene) that can be recycled. The open house demonstration showed stand-up zipper pouches being made from unsupported co-ex film supplied by Ampac.

All bag and pouchmaking machines are made in Gujarat, India, where the company has just moved its 150 employees into a new 450,000-sq-ft facility. In addition to the Montgomery, IL, location, the company has opened another US location in Bradenton, FL, to manufacture horizontal form/fill/seal machines.

Vegaplus

The Vegaplus pouchmaker features a modular design to process both supported films (laminates) and unsupported co-ex films. The machine is available in processing widths of 610 mm (24 in.), 820 mm (32 in.), and 1020 mm (40 in.).

The sealing system uses an unconventional software application for servo that drives the sealing head and generates sealing pressure, which enables the system to be very consistent and precise on sealing pressure control. A servo-driven zip sealing mechanism with digital control to program zip sealing thickness. No flange separators are required.

The pouch system has an option of up to four independent tension control areas including unwinding and forming; unwind nip, dancer, and insertion area of zippers and gussets; sealing in line with web; and sealing across the web. The system also features an intelligent user-friendly control system with an optional Supervisory Control and Production Management System.

Mamata holds two open houses per year. Watch PFFC’s Calendar of Events for the next opportunity to visit Mamata.
