Decreased Cooling Time for Blown Film
- Published: June 01, 2011
The Aquarex line blows film downward and uses water instead of air to quench the bubble, reportedly decreasing the cooling time by a factor of 30. The sudden freezing of the melt minimizes the buildup of crystallites in the plastic, creating an amorphous structure with excellent optical properties, company says, and the water quenching process also improves mechanical properties, such as puncture resistance and dart-drop-value. Highly amorphous micro-structure improves sealability.
