Mactac Films Receive UL Approval

STOW, OH | Mactac announces the addition of the R550 thermal transfer ribbon from DNP Imagingcomm America Corporation to its existing portfolio of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approved durable films with thermal transfer ribbons. Company says the pre-approval demonstrates label suitability and compliance with ANSI/UL 969 testing standards for displaying required safety information on UL Certified products, and with the film-ribbon combination, converters have peace of mind that the label solution will perform as intended while also avoiding any additional testing. The only requirement is a quick, easy paper transfer.

“We want to continue to provide our customers with a portfolio of solutions that can confidently meet recognized standards for durability and environmental resistance,” says Kim Hensley, marketing manager, Mactac Performance Adhesives. “Through a joint effort, it’s easy to address the requirements of UL knowing the full solution—label base material, pressure-sensitive adhesive, and thermal printing—together pass the standard.”

Mactac says its Durable Film Products are high-performance adhesive labels designed to resist extreme hot and cold temperatures, moisture, UV light, and chemical exposure in applications such as nameplate, brand identification, chemical drum, wet-cell battery, caution and warning labels, and compliance and hazard labels. Mactac durable films that have been pre-approved for use with DNP’s R550 thermal transfer ribbon include the following:

  • FCD6914: 2.0-mil white polyester
  • FGD6914N: 2.0-mil brushed silver polyester
  • FFD6914N: 2.0-mil matte silver polyester
  • FJD6914: 2.0-mil bright silver void polyester

Each durable film features a 50# Super Calendared Kraft (SCK) liner and Mactac’s MP690 high-performance, high-tack permanent acrylic emulsion adhesive, which reportedly is very resistant to chemicals and solvents and has very good adhesion to high- and low-energy substrates. Like Mactac’s durable films, DNP’s R550 thermal transfer ribbon also is said to have superior durability and is designed for extreme chemical resistance. It is known to print extremely small, crisp ,and clearly readable characters with great precision.

Representatives from DNP’s marketing department say, “When paired with Mactac Durable Films, R550 provides extreme resistance against most chemicals. We are pleased to join forces with Mactac to bring a strong, UL approved solution for the toughest thermal transfer applications.”

Durable films are available under Mactac’s Precise Program, allowing customers to order less material for small runs and limited applications.
