Steam bar controls curl in web processes

The Curlguard system is designed to control curl in paper web processes. It incorporates a steam distribution bar to apply uniform steam to the web. Curl is eliminated as the web absorbs moisture. The steam bar alternates with air bars that are used for web flotation and for removing the moisture that has been applied to the web. A patented nozzle system in the steam distribution bars applies moisture uniformly, eliminating the web-streaking problems that can be caused by conventional steam shower methods. Shut-off valves enable control of steam application within zones and the steam bar is enclosed in a heated jacket to prevent spitting and condensation problems.
