“E-Commerce, The Next Generation”.…provides…great resource material for examining your web site's customer suitability. It also reveals how to upgrade its usefulness, how to market your web site, and much more.
Finally! The international Converting Machinery/Materials Conference and Exposition—CMM International—is upon us, starting April 23. And this year, unlike previous versions of the show, Paperloop Inc., the show's owner and organizer, is overlapping the behemoth event with a new conference called the “e-business/Converting Conference,” which takes place April 22-24 at the Hyatt McCormick Place hotel.
Hosted by Pulp & Paper Conferences and CMM Events, this new conference will focus solely on the converting and package-printing marketplace. It will address key issues and practical concerns facing converters of paper, paperboard, nonwovens, and other materials. A mix of industry and e-business experts has been assembled in order to help attendees forge a path through the complexities of e-business. More information on the new conference can be obtained by visiting paperevents.com or cmmshow.com or by contacting Dana Jacoby at This email address is being protected from spambots. Before you leave home, be sure to brush up on the subject matter by reading this month's supplement: “E-Commerce, The Next Generation,” polybagged with the April issue. Contributor Joe Dysart provides you with great resource material for examining your web site's customer suitability. He also reveals how to upgrade its usefulness, how to market your web site, and much more. The possibilities are as diverse as your imagination will allow.
On a sentimental note, I'd like to express my sincerest best wishes upon the retirements of Jim Feeney, president and treasurer of Windmoeller and Hoelscher, and Sven Sandblom, VP of sales for Faustel. They are people who, during my entire 24-year professional career in the converting industry, always found the time to talk to me when I had a question about their individual businesses or the industry at large. I will particularly miss Jim's occasional comments on my monthly editorials. He let me know when I hit the bulls-eye or missed the mark entirely. As for Sven, he was honored recently by the Association of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators with its President's Award, which gives recognition to his lifetime industry achievements and his many contributions to AIMCAL. If my one vote could matter (and at times it does), both Jim and Sven would tie for Men of the Year.
On a final note, as you travel through Chicago's downtown during CMM, you may experience some frustration: Contrary to popular belief, Chicago actually has only two seasons-winter and construction. No joke. Your taxi ride may take longer because of the demolition and reconstruction of both levels of Wacker Dr. between Michigan and Randolph Streets. Be patient and have extra change.
