A Star is Born
Crescendo premium, coated-one-side paperboard from MeadWestvaco is giving an “air of distinction” to several new Nivea Body products. A blue-and-white pearlescent coating is said to suggest the soft, smooth, luxurious skin promised by the products; silver hot stamping provides a twinkling suggestion of a starlit evening sky. Converter Curtis Packaging, Sandy Hook, CT, recommended Crescendo to Nivea manufacturer Beiersdorf. Curtis VP of marketing Don Droppo Jr. says, “…Crescendo…is a top-tier, cosmetic-quality paperboard that is very smooth and extremely bright. It not only prints beautifully but also hot stamps and converts very well.

Seal Out Doubt
When Australia’s George Weston Foods (GWF) chose resealable zippered packaging for its Don brand 97% fat-free shaved meats, it also chose film supplier Aperior Packaging (Sydney, Australia), and Aperior turned to Zip-Pak Australia. Says Kevin Young, GWF innovation manager, “Aperio knows Zip-Pak’s zipper products well, so zipper and film compatibility was one less variable to worry about.” He adds, “…resealable zippers are the future of convenient value-added packaging. …We’re proud to have pioneered what we believe will become the flexible bulk packaging standard for processed meats in Australia.”

Contamination Foe
Legato film from Rollprint is said to be a cost-effective packaging film that seals aggressively through food product contamination. The secret, says Rollprint, is the enhanced chemical qualities of its proprietary Allegro M, which is extrusion coated onto the oriented polyester film. The transparent lidstock seals to numerous rigid cup or tray structures, seals at low temperatures, and offers a wide operating window. It is recommended for food applications and reportedly performs well in the presence of brine solution and residual food particulates.
