CorrExpo Keeps Boxmakers in the Race

CorrExpo 2007, TAPPI's Corrugated Packaging Conference, was held October 30-November 1 at the Indianapolis Convention Center. “Racing to a Stronger Tomorrow” was the theme of the conference, which included more than 700 participants and 145 tabletop exhibits.
Bob Cantu, national account manager for Sun Chemical's Paper Packaging Group, won the Division Technical Award and Harry J. Bettendorf Prize, the highest technical honor bestowed by the Corrugated Technical Div. Cantu has made dozens of presentations at TAPPI conferences. This year, Cantu and Sun Chemical's Charles Hague spoke on improving productivity with pH stable inks.
The Leadership & Service Award went to Davide Friedman, senior packaging scientist at General Mills, to recognize his dedication to the division.
Robb Trippsmith won the Lifetime Achievement Award for a career spanning more than 40 years including stints at Jefferson Smurfit and Betz Paperchem.
Motivational speaker Joel Weldon, Joel H. Weldon & Assoc., offered two keynote addresses to energize attendees. In the first he provided tips on how to adapt to a changing environment. In the second he offered idea stimulators to generate creativity in the workplace.
Technical sessions were divided into Converting/Converting Maintenance and Corrugating/Corrugating Maintenance tracks. Attendees heard presentations by, among others, Jean Jackson, Allison Systems, who provided information on doctor blades and how they react with anilox rolls, and Cordes Porcher, Packaging Corp. of America, and Scott Gilbert, Smurfit Stone Container, who explained how and why to fingerprint your press.
