BOBST Conference Draws Polish Flexpack Industry

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND | BOBST reports representatives from most of Poland’s leading printing and converting companies were brought together at a recent packaging event company organized in the city of Torun in northern Poland.

This technology, process, and business networking conference also included the live demonstration of a BOBST F&K 20SIX flexo printing press hosted converter PAK Torun at its nearby plant.

During the conference, which was held in the Osada Karbówko in Elgiszewo, guests enjoyed a number of technically oriented presentations illustrating the solutions that are driving innovation throughout the supply chain, and they also received a useful overview of the investment and financing opportunities available to Polish packaging companies. In addition to BOBST experts, speakers included partner suppliers Atlas Converting, Coim, Daetwyler SwissTech, and Lemo Maschinenbau.

Witold M?ynarczyk, Zone Business Director Central Europe and CIS for BOBST’s Business Unit Web-fed, says, “We had a very good response to the event. Attendance was high, with around 100 guests, and the feedback we received after the conference and open house was excellent. It confirmed that the event formula really hit the mark with the local industry. The conference was structured as a technical update on the latest technologies and developments across the packaging value chain and processes, including gravure and flexo printing technologies, lamination, coating, vacuum metallizing, slitting/rewinding, and bagmaking. But it was also focused on other important aspects of business that are very topical for participants….”

PAK Torun has more than 20 years of experience in the flexible packaging sector and has a policy of investing in the latest technology. With this in mind and with a need to increase its flexo printing capacity to support its expanding customer base, in 2012 PAK Toru? installed the ten-color BOBST F&K 20SIX flexo printing press that provided the live demonstrations at the event.

“We are a family company,” says Witold Karbowski, owner of PAK Toru?. ”The purchase of a machine of this class was a strategic choice for us. We know today that we made the right decision. We extended and strengthened our position in the high-end packaging market segment which requires the highest and most stringent printing quality standards.”

The flexo printing demonstration included the printing of two jobs. Job changeover was performed using the smartGPS system that the PAK Toru? F&K 20SIX press is equipped with. The use of this system is said to result in almost zero waste of substrate and machine time, regardless of the type of substrate, the drying characteristics of the inks in use, or of operator skill levels.
