Berry Plastics To Take Delivery of Gloucester Engineering Winder

EVANSVILLE, IN | Berry Plastics, a manufacturer of plastic packaging products, has announced that it will take delivery of the world’s first WOW Winder manufactured by Gloucester Engineering. The winder will be delivered in the third quarter of 2009 and will be installed on a Gloucester Engineering 11-layer polyethylene cast stretch film line delivered to Berry Plastics earlier in the year.

The WOW Winder is specifically designed for stretch film applications and represents a step-change in roll quality, winding speed, winder indexing time, material optimization and flexibility. It is capable of running hand-wrap rolls more than 50% faster than conventional winders, the company reports. Core loading and roll unloading is automated and integrated int o the winder.

The WOW winder can run standard 2-in. and 3-in., as well as thin wall cores, making it the most flexible winder introduced to the stretch film market, says the company. In addition to increased winding speed, material optimization is enhanced by eliminating bleed trims and providing the opportunity to use paper cores with wall thicknesses down to .04-in. (1 mm).
