New Sustain Print and Packaging Material From Fresnels

International brand enhancement specialist Fresnels Innovations has launched a new eye-catching recyclable 3D transfer film.

International brand enhancement specialist Fresnels Innovations has launched a new eye-catching recyclable 3D transfer film.

SUSTAIN is a 100 percent recyclable product that is already receiving interest from brand packagers and designers looking for plastic free 3D transfer film manufactured using sustainable and repulpable processes for print enhancement purposes.

Incorporating enhanced security features for added brand protection, the film, which eliminates the requirement to invest in foiling or lamination technology, saving an estimated 90 percent in production costs when compared to traditional methods, reportedly features the succulent plant as a sustainability symbol as part of a non-laminate optical print decoration.

The 3D element is produced using proprietary Cellini™ digital sculpting technology, which is transferred on to carton board via a cold transfer process to provide an eco-friendly printable sheet. Printers can then utilise the sheets to overprint with transparent inks to create a highly individual and rich finish with the added textured feel of succulent.

SUSTAIN won the silver award at the recent Foil and Specialty Effects Association (FSEA) 2021 Gold Leaf awards in the ‘Print Decorating & Sustainability’ category - the third achievement in as many years at the awards for Fresnels, marking the optical microstructures innovator’s continued success in developing break-through film, foil and carton solutions for international luxury packaging applications.

“SUSTAIN, which incorporates the very best in advanced optical technology, will provide packaging designers with high visual impact, graceful solutions that catch the eye of consumers in a busy retail environment,” said Dr Glenn Wood, COO, Fresnels. “Brand owners and converters are excited by its strength and folding endurance coupled with freedom from mineral oil. Furthermore, the advantages SUSTAIN offers for global brands minimises the need to ship components from country to country, thus reducing transport costs and associated carbon emissions.”

PolyQuest to Expand Darlington, South Carolina Facility for the Eighth Time

PolyQuest, Inc. (PQ), the leading distributor of PET resins and manufacturer of recycled PET resins in North America, announces the expansion of its facility in Darlington, South Carolina.

PolyQuest, Inc. (PQ), the leading distributor of PET resins and manufacturer of recycled PET resins in North America, announces the expansion of its facility in Darlington, South Carolina.

Established in 2004, the Darlington facility has served as the company’s flagship distribution and recycling location. Centrally located in the hub of North America’s virgin PET production with access to major railroads, railways, and coastal ports, Darlington has long provided PolyQuest the ability to generate value for its business partners regardless of its position in the PET supply chain. The facility also operates recycled plastic processing capabilities to deliver sustainable raw material solutions to its customers in every end application for PET.

“Our business continues to grow at exponential levels, both organically in virgin PET and rPET as well as via access to new resins such as polypropylene and polyethylene,” said Tod Durst, president, PolyQuest. “With demand for our products at the highest level we have experienced in our company’s history and limited available supply, our customers are facing extended lead times which predicates that we hold higher levels of safety stock to service their needs.”

The expansion will reportedly include the addition of four new buildings totaling 225,000 square feet, two new rail spurs, enhanced material handling capabilities, and new machinery to process incremental volume of recycled PET and other thermoplastics. PolyQuest is adding 15 new jobs at the Darlington site with plans to increase.

Construction has already begun at the site with an anticipated completion date of February 2022.

“Once this expansion is complete our Darlington facility will have 525,000 square feet, the capacity to hold 38 rail cars, 160 million pounds of recycled plastic processing capacity, approximately 100 employees, and over $50 million invested since 2004,” said Ryan Nettles, vice president, operations, PolyQuest. “PolyQuest’s goal remains to be the value-added supplier of PET, PP, and recycled PET products to our customers and the expansion at Darlington enhances our ability to achieve that goal.”
