Graphic Packaging Adds Print Capacity with MLP

PISCATAWAY, NJ | The Consumer Products Div. of Graphic Packaging Intl., Marietta, GA, is adding capacity with an eight-color Mitsubishi Diamond V3000LX press. Plant manager Joe Mahoney says, “We purchased the new press to give us some more print capacity, along with offering our customers a more competitive price structure. The eight-color configuration also will give designers more creative options than before.”
The fourth such press at the New Jersey facility is one of three featuring fully interdecked UV systems. “We invest in UV capabilities because most of the work we do is high-end cosmetic packaging with a high degree of value-added,” says Mahoney. “We emphasize flood and spot UV coatings, stamping, and embosssing.”
The Diamond V3000LX accommodates a maximum sheet of 29½ × 4111/32 in. and handles up to 40-pt board. “Since we run a lot of combination forms and a lot of small cartons, the larger sheet size will be able to give us a more robust layout,” he adds.
The new press is equipped with a Hi-Cure UV curing system from Grafix USA, which also supplied IR dryers and a powder spraying unit. “The key benefit of full interstation curing is improved color controls,” says Mahoney. “The underlying inks are cured before the sheets move from one printing unit to the next, allowing in-line dry trapping. This reduces dot gain and results in a better process dot and sharper color.”
